How Pop-up Blocking Works
Pop-ups are usually triggered by JavaScript loaded from third-party ad networks. ProBlocker cancels the network request to the pop-up script before it loads — so the script never executes and the pop-up never appears. This is more reliable than browser pop-up blocking, which only stops the window after the script has already run.
Does Chrome Already Block Pop-ups?
Chrome has a built-in pop-up blocker that prevents new windows from opening when you
haven't clicked a link. However, it does not block overlay ads, exit-intent pop-ups,
or scripts that use window.open() with user-interaction workarounds.
ProBlocker blocks the underlying ad network scripts that power these, regardless of
how they trigger.
