Malware Protection: Block Malvertising Before It Loads
Malvertising — malicious advertising — uses the same delivery infrastructure as regular ads to distribute malware. ProBlocker blocks requests to known malware domains before any malicious code reaches your browser.
What Is Malvertising?
Malvertising is the use of online advertising networks to distribute malware. Attackers purchase ad inventory on legitimate advertising platforms — the same ones that serve ads on major news sites — and inject malicious code into the ad creative. When a user's browser loads the ad, the malicious code can attempt to exploit browser vulnerabilities, redirect to phishing sites, or trigger drive-by downloads.
Even major websites have inadvertently served malvertising because the ads come from third-party ad networks the site does not directly control.
How ProBlocker Protects Against Malvertising
ProBlocker includes malware domain filter lists that contain known malware distribution URLs and domains. When a website's ad code attempts to load content from one of these domains, ProBlocker cancels the request before the malicious code downloads.
Because blocking happens at the network request level, the malicious script never executes — regardless of whether the browser has a known vulnerability.
Is an Ad Blocker a Replacement for Antivirus?
No. ProBlocker's malware domain blocking reduces exposure to malvertising but does not provide comprehensive malware protection. Antivirus software scans files and processes on your device; ProBlocker prevents known malicious network requests. They serve complementary roles.
